Great festival, but they may have to start limiting the number of guests. Compared to when I visited 2 years ago, the crowds seemed much larger. The men's restrooms had no power (So no lights). Then they ran out of water, and finally started closing them. Still had a good time though. Park entry and food/drink prices are reasonable, but many of the shop prices seem steep.
The Texas renaissance festival continues to grow larger than life year after year. I am happy to say that experience improves along with crowds. They've managed to increase the number of rides, games and vendors to accommodate everyone with a minimal wait time (less than 10 minutes).
At the same time expect to spend some money. Tickets are not cheap to begin with and with three adults every trip to the bar will set you back 45 dollars. A plastic dragon for the kiddo with cost you 23 dollars and a sweet wooden beer tankard 60 bucks.
The second year I visited this wonderful place, and this year was the first time I brought my family to enjoy the Medieval Times environment, I even made them get dressed and we will definitely come back next year. There is something for all tastes of all ages here. There are shows, festival markets, games and attractions. I really enjoyed the experience. But this year I was really disappointed and embarrassed with them. We drove from Needville Texas, it took us almost two hours to get to traffic and get on the line and about two hours after arriving at the park we arrived around 3 pm yesterday on November 18 and the men's toilets had no electricity , and later there were no lights, then they ran out of water, and finally they started to close them. Still, we had a good time. The entrance to the park and the prices of food / drink are reasonable, I know that many people complained about a refund of money ... And I do not judge because I was about to do the same. The only reason why I did not do it, was because first of all I am pregnant and secondly my family was looking at all the annoying people for their reimbursements. I know that it is not your fault that the whole area was without services, but you really should plan to do something to avoid these sudden closures ... There are families who come from far far away to enjoy this great festival...
With regards to shows one can expect a wide variety of performers and in recent years I've noticed that the festival attracts performers from father reaches of the world bringing with them new and refreshing content.
The festival was fun, but everything is very expensive. It took over 2 hours to park and enter, and almost 3 hours to exit. It could be dangerous if an emergency arrives. There was much tension trying to leave. A 16oz beer can is $6, and a cup of beer is $15. There is a line for everything. The facility doesn't have enough room to accommodate all of the people. The staff and crew were great though. The costumes and shows are good, just so many people.
I love this place. Great memories. Do yourself a favor and get dressed and go in costume you'll thank me. And a helpful hint if you're planning on going in the afternoon and leaving at night park closer to the thirties and forties at the end of the parking rows that way when you're leaving it makes it easier to leave instead of having to wait for an hour. Also stop at Denny's on Sunday purchase a $25 gift card and you will receive two free tickets to the Renaissance Festival. So that makes your lunch basically pay for two tickets...cheers, drink Mead responsibly
